This painting was created in live art sessions led by renowned artist Aaron Bevan Bailey. Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya, lies to the North West of the country in the vast and arid Turkana district. The local tribe act as hosts to the refugee community and live alongside the camp and its inhabitants. There can be hostility and tension between the two and the refugees rarely have the opportunity to spend extended periods of time with the Turkanas, who are one of the country’s largest, oldest and most primitive tribes. These live art sessions provided the opportunity for both Turkana models and refugee artists to be together in a quiet environment, within but excluding the hustle and noise of the camp, that enabled both sitter and painter to find new appreciation in the other.£310.00
